The Students' cooperative Matija Gubec from the Primary School Matija Gubec in Gornja Stubica, was founded on January 14th 1987. The cooperative had a photo-cinema section, vegetable and fruit growing sections, and its own shop named Štacun. Among other activities, the shop supplied more than 600 pupils with textbooks and all other materials.
When in 1990, the founder and the head of the cooperative and chemistry and biology professor Željko Popović retired, the cooperative ceased with its operations. The orchard, however, was maintained through various means until the cooperative was reactivated.
